PGDM Convocation for the academic year 2010-2012 | |||||
S.G.P.C.’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) Post-Graduate Diploma Management (PGDM) Convocation for the academic year 2010-2012 was held on 22nd September, 2012. The dignitary invited for the event was, Mr. Robin Banerjee, Deputy Managing Director of Pune based Bilcare Limited. The event commenced with addressal of our Director General, Dr. Ajit Singh, followed by the warm welcome speech by our Director Prof Dr. Vidya Hattangadi. The chief guest enlightened the audience with a speech on impact analysis of recession in India.

Industrial Visit | |||||
Industrial visits are significant activities in any educational programme for they contribute to the achievement of various essential learning outcomes. Industrial visit is a vital part of the post graduate management course curriculum. It helps to bridge the gap between classroom and the real working world. The visit also provides first-hand knowledge about the organizational structures and modes of operation in different industries. Industrial visits make students understand the subject to its core. It also gives them an idea about their job profile. Students are given projects based on learning from the visits.

Corporate Cricket Match | |||||
S.G.P.C’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) organized an inaugural Corporate 20:20 Cricket Match between B.A.R.C. and GNIMS students on 31st March 2012. The match was held on the B.A.R.C. cricket ground, Chembur. The match was won by the B.A.R.C. cricket team. Best bowler and Best batsman award went to the players of B.A.R.C. team, whereas for his brilliant all round performance Dhawal Pawaskar (MMS Sem-II) won the Man of the Match award, he was also captaining the GNIMS Team. |

Prof. Dr. Vidya Hattangadi along with many faculty members were present to cheer team GNIMS. The spirit with which the match was played was well appreciated by both the sides. The revolving GNIMS trophy went to B.A.R.C team and both the teams would be again playing for the same in the later part of the year 2012. |

Seminar on Highlights of Union Budget | |||||
SGPC’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) organized a seminar on the topic of Highlights of Union Budget on 24th March 2012. The Speaker for the session was Mr. Kamlesh Kotak - Head of Research - Asian Market Security.
The lecture started with the Global and Indian economy preview, and what future holds for the Indian economy. The union budget as per the speaker was “commercialized”. The next part had the entire budget at a glance, where in the meaning and applicability of various concepts like revenue, fiscal and primary deficit was explained and discussed. |

The next part of the seminar included the takeaways from the budget. This was followed by the budget proposals good and bad points and what is missing in the budget. Later on the speaker discussed the impact of the budget on various industries. What’s in the budget for the common man was also discussed in depth. This was followed by key statistics related top the budget and a question and answer session with the students. |

Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Walk Held - DNA Correspondent | |||||
Students, faculty members and staff of Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) in Matunga jointly organised a walk with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) on Sunday to create awareness about Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The students have taken up MS awareness as one of their social missions in the present academic year. MS is a disease of the central nervous system which affects its functioning, unexpectedly resulting in devastating disabilities in young people in the prime of their lives. It has various symptoms from minor visual disturbances to total paralysis. The walk commenced at 7.30am and continued till 11am, covering the Dadar and Matunga areas. The students had recently also volunteered for an MS camp organised at Shushrusha Hospital in Dadar. Dr Ajit Singh, secretary, local management committee of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) to which GNIMS belongs, encouraged the students and faculty to take u p social responsibilities as one of their main tasks. Dr Vidya Hattangadi, director, GNIMS, said that organisations do not exist in vacuum; they need to recognise social factors and help them to grow. Masters of Supply Chain Management – Mumbai Dabbawalla’s | |||||
SGPC’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) organized a seminar in association with Higher Education Forum (HEF) on the topic of how the Mumbai Dabbawalla’s have mastered the art of supply chain management on 11th February 2012. The seminar opened with the address of Dr. A. K. Sengupta – the founder member of Higher Education Forum. Dr. Sengupta in his address to the students and faculties emphasized on practical approaches in the class rooms while implementing the curriculum. He also said that the syllabus needs regular upgradation. Dr. Pawan Agrawal a PhD on the topic of “A study of Logistics and Supply chain Management on Dabbawalla’s in Mumbai” mesmerized the audience with his zealous and witty presentation on the subject. Dr. Agrawal has given presentations in Paris, Netherlands, USA etc. The Forbes Global has made the Mumbai Dabbawalla’s global figures. The Dabbawallas seem to have made a mark for themselves in the Management curriculum in some of the global B Schools in the Supply Chain Management. One of the astonishing facts of the Dabbawalla’s is their accuracy in supplying dabba’s all over Mumbai within the recorded time. The dabbawallas do their jobs with passion, honest and punctuality with a high level commitment and selflessness. Dr. Agrawal enthused the students by touching upon the qualities and values exhibited by the dabbawalla’s, which the future managers should emulate. |

A Workshop on Overcoming Fears and Stress Management and R.E.B.T. | |||||
A Workshop on Overcoming Fears and Stress Management and R.E.B.T. A workshop on “Self-Development”, for the First Year MMS and PGDM students was organized on 27th January, 2012. The workshop was divided into two sessions, “Overcoming Fears and Stress Management” and “R.E.B.T.” The first session i.e. “Overcoming Fears and Stress Management”, was facilitated by Dr. Ali Akbar Gabhrani. The speaker, a clinical psychologist and an eminent personality in the field of stress management and counseling, he touched upon the definition and causes of stress and fears. He also stressed upon how to overcome fears and manage stress in the daily life of a student. The session was highly interactive and enjoyable and extremely helpful for the students. The second session on “R.E.B.T.” was facilitated by Ms. Ambereen Pradhan. The speaker is a trained REBT professional. The session covered practical applications of REBT. The session was made interactive with the speaker and her team indulging the students into various activities and role plays. REBT stresses on our thinking, judging, deciding, analyzing, and doing. An effort was made by the speaker to teach that our emotions stem mainly from our beliefs, evaluations, interpretations, and reactions to life situations. The session focused on reinstating the fact that we are born with a potential for both rational and irrational thinking. We are self-talking, self-evaluating, and self-sustaining. We have an inborn tendency toward growth and actualization. We learn and invent disturbing beliefs and keep ourselves disturbed through our self-talk. We have the capacity to change our cognitive, emotive, and behavioral processes. |

Workshop organized on NSE's Certification in Financial Markets (NCFM) | |||||
A workshop on, “NSE's Certification in Financial Markets (NCFM)” for the First Year MMS and PGDM students was organized on 21st January, 2012. It was a day long workshop, wherein the first half of the day was dedicated to the general basic concepts in financial market and the second half stressed more upon the NCFM modules. The speaker for the day was Mr. Aditya Jadhav, he works for National Stock Exchange of India Ltd. as Assistant Manager (Research & Education), and also he is responsible for managing the NSE's research & publications. The workshop was a highly interactive wherein a lot of industry trends and concepts were discussed with the students. The students were exposed and introduced to various modules of NCFM, also the contents and scope was discussed. The speaker also resolved in depth the student’s queries with respect to different aspects and functions of a finance manager in various areas of finance. The session was followed by a questions and answer interaction between the students and the speaker. |

The dignitaries for the event, included The Key Note Speaker, Mr. Prakash Shanware – CEO & President (People First – A Management Consulting Firm), and The Chief Guest, Mr. K.B. Balmurali, President- HR (Samsara Group). The event commenced with blessings of Dr. Ajit Singh, D.G. & Addl. Sec. L.M.C. I/C Director Dr. Gowri Joshi welcomed the gathering and delivered a brief addressal about the challenges ahead for the 54 students gathered for the ceremony. The Key Note Speaker briefed how India as an economy has earned respect globally. The Chief Guest provided an insight about Indian mythology and management. The Key Note Speaker recited the Management Convocation Oath, post which, the certificates were awarded by him and the Chief Guest to the students. |
